No Terengganu awards this year

For the first time ever, the Terengganu palace would not be handing any form of awards in conjunction with Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin’s birthday.

According to Bernama, Terengganu state secretary Mokhtar Nong confirmed the matter in a letter received from the palace, adding that no reason was stated for the move.

“I”m not sure if there will be a ceremony tomorrow to give the awards,” said Mokhtar when met at a function in Pantai Batu Burok, Kuala Terengganu.

However, Mokhtar said that special prayers for the sultan would still be held in mosques throughout the state tonight.

He added that sultan’s birthday bash would be carried out “in moderation”.

Alhamdulillah. Baguslah. Negara ini sudah terlalu ramai Datuk dan Datin. Sepertimana disebut dalam buku Honk! If you’re Malaysian oleh Lydia Teh, kalau dibaling batu ditengah-tengah orang ramai, maka ada kemungkinan batu itu akan mengenai seorang Datuk. Begitulah nak bagitau ramainya mereka yang bergelar Datuk sekarang ini. Patutlah pemberian anugerah sebegitu dihentikan buat seketika.
